Life can be so hard and, sometimes, we lose our spirit. Here are 15 songs that will lift your soul, make you believe in yourself, give you the confidence to work harder in life, and make you realize that you're beautiful just the way you are.
1. "This Is Me" From The Greatest Showman
- Release: 2017
- Artist: Keala Settle, The Greatest Showman Ensemble
- Album: The Greatest Showman: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Nowadays, it can be really hard to fit into society's definition of beauty, success, and happiness. Sometimes, it can break us and make us doubt ourselves. But, in this beautiful song that is featured in the amazing new film The Greatest Showman, we need to realize that we are all unique in our own ways and our differences are what make us beautiful.
It is important to be our own unique and unapologetic self and not let the world change our own definitions of life. This song, together with other songs in the movie, was written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. They are also the ones who wrote the songs in the hit musical play, Dear Evan Hansen. You might as well check those songs out because all of them are really inspiring and would definitely pull some heartstrings.
I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I'm meant to be, this is me
Look out 'cause here I come
And I'm marching on to the beat I drum
I'm not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me
— This Is Me (The Greatest Showman)

3. "Rise Up" by Andra Day

This song is one of the most beautiful inspirational songs I've heard. Andra Day's amazing raspy voice is on point, giving life to this emotional piece. This song is about not giving up in this life, even when it can be so painfully tiring. Life's challenges may keep circling back and forth, but this song reminds us that we can get through even the biggest hurdles as long as we keep trying.
When the silence isn't quiet
And it feels like it's getting hard to breathe
And I know you feel like dying
But I promise we'll take the world to its feet
And move mountains
— Rise Up (Andra Day)
4. "Scars to Your Beautiful" by Alessia Cara
- Release: 2015
- Artist: Alessia Cara
- Album: Know-It-All
Alessia Cara is definitely one of the most talented and promising young artists today, but her youth doesn't stop her from sending big and important messages to her audience. She isn't just an inspiration to the younger generations but also to anyone who has the same struggles.
In this song, she sings about a young girl who tries to fit into the flawed beauty standards of society. She tells her that she's beautiful in whatever form, color or size she is. She doesn't need to change herself because she's worth it and perfect just the way she is. Alessia even pledged to sing barefaced each time she performs this song, may it be on TV shows or even on the biggest award ceremonies in the music industry. She's definitely an amazing role model that should be known all over the world.
But there's a hope that's
waiting for you in the dark
You should know you're beautiful
just the way you are
And you don't have to change a thing,
the world could change its heart
No scars to your beautiful,
we're stars and we're beautiful
— Scars to Your Beautiful (Alessia Cara)
5. "Who You Are" by Jessie J
- Release: 2011
- Artist: Jessie J
- Album: Who You Are
Jessie J is one of this generation's musical heroes, not just because of her amazing out-of-this-worldly voice but because of the messages she's putting out with her songs. This song, in particular, is one of the most inspirational songs by her to date. It's about not losing yourself in hurtful situations. It is also about not beating yourself up at times of failure. She reminds us to let our hearts shine in every situation no matter how hard, to just be yourself and stop fitting the mold of the world.
My favorite line in this song is definitely 'It's okay not to be okay.' It speaks to everyone who is in pain and it reminds us that our situations don't define who we are, that it's totally okay to feel low and sad but what's important is we know that we are far more than what we feel, that we can still be better and chase our dreams.
Don't lose who you are, in the blur of the stars
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay...
— Who You Are (Jessie J)
6. "Try" by Colbie Caillat
- Release: 2014
- Artist: Colbie Caillat
- Album: Gypsy Heart
This song by Colbie Caillat is about the need of women to try to be 'beautiful' just to be liked by other people. It's about doing things to please the mass and equating your worth to how the society perceives you. It's a totally essential message to our young girls and even boys, and I hope everyone would listen to this song and realize that they don't need to try.
The line "Do you still like you?" speaks to me the most because of how this question can truly relay the message, the question that if you're in your room by yourself, away from other people and the society, would you still like what you see? Would you still like the person you've become just to meet the 'standards'?
Take your make-up off
Let your hair down
Take a breath
Look into the mirror, at yourself
Don't you like you?
'Cause I like you
— Try (Colbie Caillat)
7. "Brave" by Sara Bareilles
- Release: 2013
- Artist: Sara Bareilles
- Album: The Blessed Unrest
This is definitely one of my favorites. This song, sang by Sara Bareilles, inspires us to take on life head on. That sometimes, we need to say what our hearts say, do what we want to do and be 'brave'. It gives us strength to not let anyone or any situation make us push-overs. We need to be brave and shout to the world that we can be who we want to be in this life no matter what the world says.
Don’t run, stop holding your tongue
Maybe there’s a way out
of the cage where you live
Maybe one of these days
you can let the light in
Show me how big your brave is
— Brave (Sara Bareilles)

Sang by a total musical icon, this song will surely captivate your soul. It is about learning to trust your own self. She is singing to a young girl and telling her to not stop believing even in the hardest times and it's important that you are learning from it because nothing is going to stop you from reaching your goals as long as you 'trust the voice within'.
Like your oldest friend,

Then you'll find the strength
that will guide your way

Selena Gomez is one of this generation's most popular artists and garnered millions of fans across the globe. Starting from an early age, Selena has been releasing songs and this one is totally one of the most inspirational. It is about not letting anyone tell you what you can or what you can't be. Selena continues to wow as with her music but most importantly, she's one great role model to her fans and to the world.
Who says you're not star potential

Show me a smile then
Don't be unhappy, can't remember
