I'm married with two furbabies. I love music, old movies, and old TV shows.
With a Little Ode to My Husband
Who doesn't love romance? Everybody loves romance.
Of course, everybody's view on romance is different. Some days the most romantic thing my husband can do for me is wash the dishes. Hey, when you are the dishwasher, it's nice to get a break. (Let me put this disclaimer before the husband gets mad: The husband is the main breadwinner, so therefore I am generally the one who takes care of the house.)
I'm not someone who likes to be showered with gifts. Yeah, they're nice but money doesn't buy everything. It can't buy this gal love. I just like to be told I'm appreciated.
I am a big music fan—anybody can tell you that. I thought this would be an easy list to write to do. Boy, was I wrong. It took forever to narrow it down to just 10 songs. And even then, I changed my mind about a million times. Not kidding, either.
My top three songs I had no problem with. Those I can rattle off as soon as you ask me. It was the other seven that I had trouble with. But finally, I came up with my final list, and I now present my top 10 songs about love and romance. Enjoy!
Honorable Mention: "You Are So Beautiful" by Joe Cocker
Okay, so I couldn't narrow it down to just 10. I had to throw in an honorable mention.
"You Are So Beautiful" has always been one of those songs for me. He may not be the worlds greatest dancer (he looks more like he's having a seizure) but I have loved this song for longer than I can remember. I always said I was going to marry a man that sang this to me . . . but once I heard my husband sing, well, I changed my mind on that. (I obviously still married him—he just didn't have to sing the song.)
10. "Just The Way You Are" by Billy Joel
I love Billy Joel and this is one of his best songs (again, my opinion).
When you first start dating somebody, you might think to yourself, "Hmm, I wonder if there is anything I'm not going to like about him/her?" When it came to my husband, the answer was, "not really." Yeah, sure there are a few minor things I would change—like how he leaves the toilet seat up (what man doesn't) and how he smokes (that's a war I decided to give up)—but for the most part, I love him just the way he is.
9. "All for Love" by Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart, and Sting
This is from the 1993 movie, The Three Musketeers, starring Charlie Sheen and Kiefer Sutherland. When I first heard the song way back then, I loved it. I still love it to this day, 19 years later. I love Bryan Adams and I like Sting but I'm not a big Rod Stewart fan. I'll tolerate his other music but I love him in this song. I guess you can say it's the only Rod Stewart song I like.
8. "Here and Now" by Luther Vandross
The late, great Luther Vandross. What really needs to be said about him and his music? The man is a legend. He knew how to sing a love song. He knew how to make you fall in love. When my husband and I have our "big wedding" (basically our vow renewal since we got married Justice of the Peace), you can bet your sweet bippy this song will be used during the reception.
7. "Leather and Lace" by Stevie Nicks and Don Henley
I think this is one of the best Stevie Nicks songs (once again, my opinion. I'm sure you might think "Edge of Seventeen" is better.) Add Don Henley to the mix and it's gold. Stevie has this voice that is just . . . magic. The raspy-ness of it is what I love.
One of my good friends describes the song as, "you be a man, I'll be a woman, and we'll get along swimmingly." I also think that this is a good description for the song.
6. "God Gave Me You" by Blake Shelton
I love Blake Shelton. He is one hunk of man. The blue eyes. The voice. The . . . oh wait, I think I drifted off course.
I had heard this song before but one time, after a fight with my husband, it came on the radio as I was driving to work. I don't even remember what the fight was about now. It was petty, I'm sure. But the song put things into perspective. I texted him and apologized, again, for the fight. I also quoted the lyrics to the song and told him how lucky I was to have him. We still haven't decided on our first dance song for our "big wedding" but I think I'm going to push for this one.
5. "Love Will Keep Us Alive" by The Eagles
Let me start off by saying, I saw The Eagles in their 1996 Hell Freezes Over tour and they were awesome.
Now that that is out of the way, I love this song. Their best love song, in my opinion.
I would die for you
Climb the highest mountain
Baby, there's nothing I wouldn't do
holds true for my husband. Even though I am positively, absolutely petrified of heights, I would climb a mountain if he asked me to.
4. "Please Forgive Me" by Bryan Adams
I have loved this song ever since I can remember. Now that I'm with my husband, it has even more special meaning. I even serenaded him with it one time, in the car. It happened to come on the radio and I just belted it out to him. It must have made an impact on him because the next thing I know, he had downloaded it on his computer.
I love the song because it basically says what I feel for my husband. I love him so much, he's always been the one for me, and I don't know what I would do without him.
3. "The Long and Winding Road" by The Beatles
I honestly don't know what to say about this song to tell you why I love it and why it's my #3 song. Other than it's The Beatles, duh. The Beatles rank up there in my top five artists/groups. I think it's mainly the music that does it for me. Something about the strings, especially at the end, that is just . . . awesome. Plus, Sir Paul's voice in this one is just . . . guh.
2. "I'll Stand By You" by The Pretenders
I like Carrie Underwood's cover of this (hears all the gasps and cries of blasphemy!) but The Pretenders version is, and will forever be, number one.
I am a very loyal person. When I love you, I will protect you like no other. My husband has known this since day one. He has known that I have been there for him since day one. I am his biggest fan, his biggest supporter, his biggest cheerleader, his biggest...everything. I've stood by him for the past four years, through good and bad. We've had our rocky times, what couple hasn't? But I have always stood by him and he has always stood by me, no matter what.
1. "Wonderful Tonight" by Eric Clapton
Folks, this is the greatest version of this song ever in the history of Eric Clapton videos. You must watch it!
There is no explanation needed as to why this song is my number one love song.
Oh, you want one? Okay, here goes: Eric Clapton is a god. The man is a guitar legend. Simple as that. I've loved this song ever since I was in the womb and my daddy played it on the guitar.
What About You?
So, tell me, what are some of your favorite love/romance songs? Are they some of mine? As I said, I had a really hard time narrowing the remaining seven down. It took me forever to do this—there are just so, so many good songs out there!

the-men-diet, thank you! And Lady & the Tramp is a classic! Although I haven't watched it in a long time. I need to!
the-men-diet from USA on June 12, 2012:
Great music and a great hub, you had me at the Lady & The Tramp Picture, love that movie, still have the 25 year old VHS I used to watch over and over as a kid.

Mhatter99, I think I am going to do another post or two of love/romance songs.
One is going to be nothing but songs by greats such as Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. I love those two. Especially Frankie. Ever seen the Looney Tunes cartoon with all the chickens going, "FRANKIE!!" and then falling over? That would be me!
I'm assuming when you said "Return To Me" you meant Dean Martin ;)
Martin Kloess from San Francisco on June 04, 2012:
great selection! "return to me" is not on it... yet. Funny, i just happen to have it here for you.

Tom, I had issues with my connection while writing this Hub but I don't see how that would have any "connection" with the videos. I'll check it out tho!
I didn't even think of Rev. Green! Shame on me! "Our House" actually ended up on the cutting room floor, so to speak. It took me forever to narrow it down to 10 songs. I may have to do another Hub for 10 more! I've never been a Jefferson Starship fan so I didn't think of them.
Tom Koecke from Tacoma, Washington on June 02, 2012:
You picked some great songs for this hub. There are a few issues with the videos, but I'll check a couple out at youtube.
The song that comes to mind first that was left off your list is "Let's Stay Together" by Rev. Green. That was my favorite R&B tune in the '70s! Another is "Our House" by CSNY. Just to make it three songs, I'll add "Miracles" by Jefferson Starship.
Kudos to you for "You Are So Beautiful," "Leather and Lace," and doubly for "Here and Now!"

I love these classic love songs! I voted this up and beautiful. :)

The Divinyls song isn't what I classify as, um, romantic. Self romantic, yes ;) Let's Get It On is a good song but not one of my favorites. I guess maybe since one of the local radio stations here plays it all the time, that knocked it out of the running for me.
Thank you!! :D
Georgie Lowery from North Florida on May 31, 2012:
What? No 'Let's Get It On?" Or, uh, that Divinyls song? Seriously though, great list! :)
