Longtime music collector and rock music listener. I've been writing articles for over three years.

These blonde women are some of the best vocalists in rock 'n' roll!

These blonde women are some of the best vocalists in rock 'n' roll!

The Bombshell Blondes of Rock 'n' Roll

When you think of guitar-driven heavy metal and hard rock, you may not immediately think of a gorgeous golden-haired babe stroking the fretboard on her electric guitar. But that is exactly what fans of Lita Ford, Suzi Quatro, and Orianthi Paragaris live for.

These ladies are no longer the exception to the rule. These days, women have a definitive place in the hard rock music scene, going toe-to-toe with the boys in any band. Let's take a look at some of these talented ladies. This is by no means meant to be a "Top 25." This is just 25 of the best; I am sure we could even come up with 25 more! So, in no particular order, let's rock!

Cherie Currie

1. Cherie Currie

Born: November 30, 1959

Bands: Runaways

Best Albums: Queens of Noise, Waitin' for the Night

Years Active: 1976–present

Bio:
At the sweet age of 16, she was a rebel queen, and yes, she sure looked hot in her tight blue jeans. As the lead singer of the all-girl band The Runaways, Cherie Currie was many a young man's fantasy girlfriend. A 100% rock 'n' roll and beautiful blond that always seemed to be living on the edge yet was still under control. As the years have passed and her biography has been told, it has become apparent that she probably never really was in control in those days, but like many rock 'n' rollers who found the limelight a little overwhelming, she survived and is still gorgeous today.

What Makes Cherie Currie Unique?

  • Dominates the stage
  • Dynamic Vocals
  • Never let fame get the best of her
Lita Ford

Lita Ford

Bands: The Runaways, W.A.S.P.

Best Albums: Queens of Noise, Waitin' for the Night

Years Active: 1975–1995, 2008–present

Bio:

Lita Ford also got her start with The Runaways but went on to even greater success after the band broke up, selling millions of albums as a solo artist and becoming probably the premiere female guitarist in heavy metal. Most would probably argue that Joan Jett is the better known refugee from The Runaways, but when it comes to sales and chart positions, Lita comes out well ahead. Lita is still rocking after all these years and is more lovely than ever!

What Makes Lita Ford Unique?

  • Exudes rock 'n' roll
  • Never let fame get the best of her
  • Saw huge success on the charts
Agnetha Fältskog

Agnetha Fältskog

3. Agnetha Fältskog

Born: April 5, 1950

Bands: ABBA

Best Albums: Ring Ring, Arrival

Years Active: 1967–1988, 2004–present

Bio:

When you think of rock 'n' roll bands, ABBA may not be the first to come to mind. But they were indeed a rock 'n' roll band and, at one time, the most successful band in the world. They even had a song called "Rock 'n' Roll Band" on their first album. But the thing that really made ABBA special to many were the ladies—Agnetha and Anni-Frid. Anni-Frid, more often referred to as Frida, was the brunette. Agnatha was the blond. Both were lovely, but there was always something special about Agnetha.

What Makes Agnetha Fältskog Unique?

  • Large vocal range
  • A huge chart success
  • Great at contributing to the band
Sass Jordan

Sass Jordan

4. Sass Jordan

Born: January 8, 1962

Bands: N/A

Best Albums: Tell Somebody

Years Active: 1982–present

Bio:

Sass Jordan plays rock 'n' roll with the swagger of a Rod Stewart or Keith Richards and looks a whole lot better doing it. In addition to playing rock 'n' roll on par with the bad boys of the music world, she is also an actress and veejay as well as a wife and mother. Pretty awesome, I'd say.

What Makes Sass Jordan Unique?

  • Rocks heavier than most boys
  • She is also an actress and veejay
  • She has swagger that most simply can't touch
Taylor Momsen

Taylor Momsen

5. Taylor Momsen

Born: July 26, 1993

Bands: The Pretty Reckless

Best Albums: Light Me Up, Going to Hell

Years Active: 1997–present

Bio:

Taylor Momsen is a popular actress from the original show Gossip Girl though apparently, her acting claim to fame prior to that was starring alongside Jim Carrey in How the Grinch Stole Christmas as Cindy Lou Who. Apparently, she has also done some modeling work, but I couldn't tell you who she modeled for. The first I heard of her was when I heard about a band called The Pretty Reckless. The band rocks, and Taylor is a great singer. I know she probably has fans that enjoy her acting and modeling, but, personally, I would like to see her devote her time in full to the band.

What Makes Taylor Momsen Unique?

  • Also a talented actress
  • Great stage presence
  • Great at emphasizing hard notes
Suzi Quatro

Suzi Quatro

6. Suzi Quatro

Born: June 3, 1950

Bands: The Pleasure Seekers, Cradle

Best Albums: Rock Hard, If You Knew Suzi...

Years Active: 1964–present

Bio:

When it comes to legendary figures in rock 'n' roll, Suzi Quatro is an icon. Sure, there were illustrious women in rock before her—Janis Joplin, Grace Slick, Mama Cass, and Michelle Phillips—but Suzi was the first to break through playing real rock guitar. Usually dressed in black leather, Suzi Quatro was the role model for Joan Jett and showed Joan, as well as the other ladies, to follow the rock 'n' roll path, and how to put some, well, balls into rock 'n' roll.

What Makes Suzi Quatro Unique?

  • Futuristic style that was ahead of its time
  • Tough as nails
  • Edgy presentation and lyrics
Gwen Stefani

Gwen Stefani

Best Albums: The Beacon Street Collection, Tragic Kingdom

Years Active: 1986–present

Bio:

As the lead singer of No Doubt, Gwen Stefani hit the charts and became a household name. A few years later, her solo career launched her to even greater fame. After No Doubt regrouped in 2009 and released their 2012 album Push and Shove, she went back to solo music in 2016 with the release of This Is What the Truth Feels Like. In recent years she's seen a resurgence in media popularity for her coaching role on The Voice and her relationship and eventual marriage to country star Blake Shelton.

What Makes Gwen Stefani Unique?

  • Wild energy
  • Blended many genres together
  • Outlandish fashion sense
Nina Gordon

Nina Gordon

8. Nina Gordon

Nina Gordon co-founded the group Veruca Salt and was a driving force in the band. She wrote their hits "Seether" and "Volcano Girls" before leaving the band in 1998 to pursue a solo career. She has since released two solo albums and become a mom. Nina is a gifted songwriter and great guitarist, in addition to being gorgeous and blond.

What Makes Nina Gordon Unique?

  • Gifted songwriter
  • Great guitarist
  • Never let fame get the best of her
Avril Lavigne

Avril Lavigne

9. Avril Lavigne

Born: September 27, 1984

Bands: N/A

Best Albums: Let Go, Under My Skin

Years Active: 1999–present

Bio:

Canadian Avril Lavigne has achieved a lot of success in the two decades she's spent as a rock star. Riding the pop-punk revival of the 2020s, she released her seventh album Love Sux in 2022, and it became her sixth to hit the top ten in the United States. She's had a clothing line and has released multiple perfumes, and recently even announced she's adapting her mega-hit "Sk8er Boi" into a feature film. Later in 2022, she was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her contributions to music at just 37.

What Makes Avril Lavigne Unique?

  • Survived becoming famous at a young age
  • Wide vocal range
  • Combines punk sensibility with female elegance

Years Active: 1965–1971

Bio:

Michelle Phillips was not only a member of The Mamas and the Papas but also co-wrote many of the band's hits, including "California Dreamin'." She was also the wife of John Phillips. They had one child, Chynna, who could have also made this list, being both beautiful and a member of the pop group Wilson-Phillips. After the band broke up, Michelle tried to launch a solo career but could not match the popularity she had found with the band. She did, however, find success as an actress. Even after all these years, Michelle Phillips is still one hot mama!

What Makes Michelle Phillips Unique?

  • A successful actress
  • Great songwriter
  • A real fighter
Orianthi Panagaris

Orianthi Panagaris

Bio:

Hailing from Adelaide, South Australia, Orianthi is probably best known as the guitarist on Michael Jackson's This Is It Tour, but she has also had a Top 40 single, "According To You," that peaked in the United States at #17. The song was from her second album, Believe. Guitar International Magazine named her the Breakthrough Guitarist of the Year in 2010, and she has been nominated for several other awards. Her captivating guitar skills are highlighted by her flowing blond hair and energetic stage presence.

What Makes Orianthi Panagaris Unique?

  • Great songwriter
  • Great guitarist
  • Powerful lyricism
Bonnie Tyler

Bonnie Tyler

12. Bonnie Tyler

Born: June 8, 1951

Bands: N/A

Best Albums: Faster Than the Speed of Night, Secret Dreams and Forbidden Fire

Years Active: 1975–present

Bio:

With a sexy voice to match her hot looks, Bonnie Tyler scored big with the hit songs "It's a Heartache" in 1977 and "Total Eclipse of the Heart" in 1981. She has continued to record steadily since then but has not had another major hit on the U.S. charts since "Holding Out for a Hero," which peaked at #34 in 1984. But that doesn't mean we can count this lady out. Do not be surprised if she returns to the charts again with her distinctively seductive voice.

What Makes Bonnie Tyler Unique?

  • A sexy voice to die for
  • Memorable lyrics
  • Memorable music videos
Jan Kuehnemund

Jan Kuehnemund

13. Jan Kuehnemund

Born: November 18, 1961

Bands: Vixen

Best Albums: Vixen, Rev It Up

Years Active: 1973–2013

Bio:

Jan Kuehnemund hit the big time with all-girl hard rockers Vixen and had a few years in the spotlight before music tastes changed and hard rock eventually gave way to grunge. Jan was recognized as a great guitarist, and though the band officially called it quits in 1991, Jan put together a new line-up in 2001 to tour and release a new album. But unfortunately, the band has been inactive since 2009.

What Makes Jan Kuehnemund Unique?

  • Champion of hard rock
  • Smokey eyes to die for
  • Great guitarist
Liz Phair

Liz Phair

14. Liz Phair

Born: April 17, 1967

Bands: Urge Overkill, Ashtray Boy, Material Issue, The Smashing Pumpkins

Best Albums: Whip-Smart, Whitechocolatespaceegg

Years Active: 1990–present

Bio:

Liz Phair is the original "indie chick" in music, a title that perhaps now belongs to Maggie Rogers or King Princess. When she released Exile in Guyville in 1993, it barely hit the Billboard Top 200, peaking at #196, and even to date has sold less than a half million copies. Yet still, it is considered one of the most influential albums of the 90s and frequently pops up on "best album" lists. Kind of like Liz keeps popping up on hottest rock chicks lists. But then again, neither of those accomplishments is surprising considering the quality of the record and the hotness of the singer.

What Makes Liz Phair Unique?

  • Champion of indie music
  • Tough as nails
  • Billboard success
Emily Osment

Emily Osment

15. Emily Osment

Born: March 10, 1992

Bands: N/A

Best Albums: Fight or Flight

Years Active: 2006–present

Bio:

As Hannah Montanacame to a close, Emily Osment, who played Miley's friend Lilly Truscott on the show, was looking for a way to step out of Miley Cyrus' shadow. Some expected her to do this by moving on to more serious acting roles or perhaps getting her own series where she could be the star (she eventually did, starring in Young & Hungry for five seasons), but many were surprised when she decided to do this with music instead. As Hannah's sidekick, Lilly never showed much aptitude for music, but Emily has certainly proven she has the talent to succeed as a singer. In recent years she's drifted between acting and singing. In 2019 she released the EP When I Loved You under the stage name Blubiird and even more recently took on a role in the sitcom Young Sheldon.

What Makes Emily Osment Unique?

  • Talented actress
  • Talented singer
  • Great songwriter
Stevie Nicks

Stevie Nicks

16. Stevie Nicks

Born: May 26, 1948

Bands: Fleetwood Mac

Best Albums: Rumours, Tusk

Years Active: 1968–present

Bio:

With her husky, sexy voice and gypsy style of dressing, Stevie Nicks captured the imagination of many a man during Fleetwood Mac's heyday in the late 70s. It has even been rumored that The Eagles' song "Witchy Woman" is about Stevie, who at one time dated Don Henley. However, that seems unlikely since the song refers to "raven hair" and was written well before the couple was an item. But Stevie is definitely one of the most gorgeous women ever in rock 'n' roll, and even today, her music frequently sees resurgences in popularity on streaming and social networking sites.

What Makes Stevie Nicks Unique?

  • Memorable songwriter
  • Large vocal range
  • Great storyteller
Candice Night

Candice Night

17. Candice Night

Born: May 8, 1971

Bands: Blackmore's Night, Rainbow, Helloween

Best Albums: Under a Violet Moon, Fires at Midnight

Years Active: 1990s–present

Bio:

Ritchie Blackmore, famed guitarist of Deep Purple and Rainbow, has a third band that is perhaps not quite as well known as his other two. Blackmore's Night features Ritchie's wife, Candice. The lady has a magical voice that fits well with the medieval-tinged folk rock the band plays. Some might say "Witchy Woman" would describe Candice better than Stevie as she at times seems to refer to Wiccan or Pagan themes in her music, but she has never stated clearly if she considers herself a follower of either religion. What she has said on the subject is this: "Nature and music tend to be what might be termed as almost a religious path for us these days."

What Makes Candice Night Unique?

  • Blends many genres together
  • She gives off a mystical, magical vibe
  • Spiritual (in her own way)
Torry Castellano

Torry Castellano

18. Torry Castellano

Born: January 8, 1979

Bands: The Donnas

Best Albums: The Donnas, American Teenage Rock 'n' Roll Machine

Years Active: 1993–2010

Bio:

Torry Castellano, the drummer for the all-girl punk rockers The Donnas, is the only drummer to make this list. That surprises me in a way because when Torry plays with her arms pounding out a steady beat and that gorgeous mane of blond locks flying out in all directions, she is smoking hot! The primal beat of the drums seems to bring out the animal of the petite blond, transforming her into a lioness on the prowl for fresh meat!

What Makes Torry Castellano Unique?

  • A punk icon
  • Primal lyricism
  • Able to hit hard notes
Joss Stone

Joss Stone

19. Joss Stone

Born: April 11, 1987

Bands: SuperHeavy

Best Albums: Introducing Joss Stone, Mind Body & Soul

Years Active: 2001–present

Bio:

Joss Stone burst onto the music scene in 2003 and hasn't slowed down since. A soul singer with a rock 'n' roll attitude, Joss is both beautiful and talented. Though her hair color changes on a regular basis—occasionally to some rather unusual colors—Joss is definitely hottest as a natural blond. I don't know why she would even want to change! And talk about versatility in music, in 2021, she won the British competition show The Masked Singer performing in costume under the name "Sausage."

What Makes Joss Stone Unique?

  • All the raw talent that comes with singing soul
  • She changes her appearance all the time
  • Has a diverse set of inspirations
Doro Pesch

Doro Pesch

20. Doro Pesch

Born: June 3, 1964

Bands: Warlock

Best Albums: Burning the Witches, Hellbound

Years Active: 1980–present

Bio:

In the mid-1980s, there emerged a German goddess to take the crown of ultimate metal maiden. That goddess was Doro Pesch, lead vocalist of Warlock. With blond hair that shimmers in the sunlight, blue eyes that twinkle in the moonlight, the voice of a hellbound angel, Doro made a mark on metal that will always remain. Though Warlock only made four albums, Doro continued on and is still bringing metal to the masses today. And though she has gotten older, she is as beautiful and sexy as ever.

What Makes Doro Pesch Unique?

  • Metal Icon
  • Large vocal range
  • Energetic
Duffy

Duffy

21. Duffy

Born: June 23, 1984

Bands: N/A

Best Albums: Rockferry, Endlessly

Years Active: 2004–present

Bio:

It would be hard to find any singer—blond female or otherwise—who hit the scene with more of an impact than did Duffy. Her debut album and single, released in 2008, were both international smashes, and the following year, she was awarded a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album and nominated for two other awards. She also won several awards in her native United Kingdom. Her delicate features, haunting eyes, and silky blond hair make her one of the most attractive new rock stars in years.

What Makes Duffy Unique?

  • Earning her ranks amongst the pop music greats
  • Delicate features, but a fierce personality
  • Eyes that could cut through steel
Nancy Wilson

Nancy Wilson

22. Nancy Wilson

Born: March 16, 1954

Bands: Heart

Best Albums: Magazine, Little Queen

Years Active: 1972–present

Bio:

Guitarist Nancy Wilson is the blond half of the Wilson duo that fronts legendary rockers Heart. Along with her vocalist sister Ann, Nancy broke through barriers and paved the way for female hard rockers in the years after Heart's breakthrough. The Wilson sisters' combination of good looks, great songwriting, and masterful playing took the band to the top of the charts and pretty much has made them legends.

What Makes Nancy Wilson Unique?

  • Great songwriting
  • Masterful instrumentation
  • Memorable hooks
Gen

Gen

23. Gen

Born: June 11, 1966

Bands: The Genitorturers

Best Albums: 120 Days of Genitorture, Sin City

Years Active: 1986–present

Bio:

The Genitorturers have been around since 1986 in one form or another and often refer to themselves as "The World's Sexiest Band." With Gen front and center and a stage show that walks the thin line between performance art and live sex show, that is a claim that may be hard to argue with. And in her black leather dominatrix outfits, Gen has plenty of fans willing to get on their knees for her.

What Makes Gen Unique?

  • Badass fashion sense
  • Dominant stage presence
  • Eyes that could light kindling
Otep Shamaya

Otep Shamaya

24. Otep Shamaya

Born: November 7, 1979

Bands: Otep, Imaginary Friend

Best Albums: Sevas Tra, House of Secrets

Years Active: 2000–present

Bio:

Otep Shamaya is the singer and primary songwriter in the band Otep. She made her debut with the band in 2000 and quickly developed a devoted fan base. Playing aggressive, loud heavy metal, Otep made a name for herself and her band. She is a vegetarian and—sorry boys—lesbian.

What Makes Otep Shamaya Unique?

  • Devoted fan base
  • Proud lesbian
  • Fantastic singer and songwriter
Sandy West

Sandy West

25. Sandy West

Born: July 10, 1959

Bands: The Runaways, the Sandy West Band

Best Albums: Queens of Noise, Waitin' for the Night

Years Active: 1975–2006

Bio:

I thought I would end the list where I began with The Runaways. Sandy West always seemed to me to be The Runaways member could be the girl that lived down the street. While the band's notoriety seemed mostly focused on the lingerie-wearing Cherie or the leather-clad Joan, it was T-shirt-and-jeans for Sandy. The ideal "California blond," Sandy attempted to continue her music career after The Runaways disbanded but never found much success. Sadly, Sandy passed away on October 21, 2006, due to lung cancer, which had spread to her brain.

What Makes Sandy West Unique?

  • A real fighter
  • Great fashion sense
  • Talented musician

DEBORAH HARRY (Blondie)?!

BTW, not all of your entries are blondes UNLESS they coloured their hair at another time.

I believe that Suzi Quatro is considered to be one of the best

female bassists in the world!!

Mel Brown on February 22, 2017:

Agnetha of ABBA was the greatest Melancholy singer of all time. But since she was 1/2 of the fab girls of ABBA. Amazingly enough she leads the voting with 18%, since ABBA was last known well in 1983. That is amazing.

Media Creeks on September 10, 2016:

thank you very much nice hub,

I saw Liz's name in the credits for an episode of Super Fun Night recently and I know she won a Grammy a couple of years ago for her work on the rebooted 90210 series. I think she is in an experimental phase musically and stretching her boundaries.

FullOfLoveSites from United States on October 31, 2013:

Oh Liz Phair... she was really, really famous then. I wonder where she is now and what she's up to at the moment.

These women are truly blessed with good looks and musical talent.

JHYNES22 on July 07, 2013:

Debbie Harry is the most famous blonde pop star ever? Madonna is by far the biggest female star ever and Agnetha Faltskog sang lead (and also had some solo success) on a group that sold more records than anyone except the Beatles and Elvis...Madonna and Michael J. were in the same 300-400M range...

JHYNES22 on July 07, 2013:

Weird list....where is the biggest female star of all time...Madonna...and where is Debbie Harry??? Nonetheless...Agnetha Faltskog is definitely the most beautiful blonde ever...Beauty inside and out...what a sweet lovely woman...and that voice.

Rich on July 06, 2013:

What a stupid list! Debbie Harry, the most famous blonde pop singer ever, not to mention one of the sexiest, isn't even on it. Why create a list and then miss out the one person who encapsulates the very person they are talking about. Besides, it's a ridiculous idea for a list in the first place. Rant over! Rich.

temujin1234 on March 27, 2013:

No Debbie Harry?
