Shannon is a passionate country fan who enjoys getting to know the artists and their music. She also loves spreading joy through interviews.

The sisterly harmonies of Presley & Taylor are unlike any other, drawing listeners in like a siren calls an unsuspecting sailor near (except that the only dangerous thing about their alluring music is that it’s hard to stop listening to, especially for those who miss the way country music used to sound). This duo has a sound reminiscent of a bygone era in country music, yet they are also modern and fresh.

Their latest single “Where You Belong” is a hopeful ballad encouraging people to pursue their dreams. The sisters expertly trade off singing the lead part, simultaneously harmonizing with one another. While songs like “Everybody Wanna Be Us” puts the power of their unique harmony on full display as they sing the verses together rather than trading off vocals. After listening to their songs, one thing is evident: these two have perfected their craft. And now you’re in for a treat, because you get to listen to some of their songs while reading their answers to some questions I recently asked them about their career and life with each other.

"Where You Belong"

It’s a crazy little life made up of choices

The ones you make

The ones you don’t

And the ones you never get

But the worst one made is hearing and ignoring all the voices

Begging you to listen to your soul that longs to live

— Where You Belong Lyrics

Shannon: Please tell us more about “Where You Belong.” Why did you choose to record the song?

Taylor: “Where You Belong” is our “dreamer” song. It speaks true to exactly where we are in life and in our musical journey. The song lends hopeful advice to anyone who has a dream and is chasing it. We hope that listeners will feel uplifted, inspired, hopeful and affirmed that they are on the right path.

Presley: When we first heard this song, it hit us as very personal because it expressed what we are experiencing. Whether it’s music or sports or a career, with any dream, there may be moments where you may question if you’re doing the right thing. This song is the light at the end of the tunnel—a walk in faith.

"This Phone"

When you’re doing something with the people you love it gives us more motivation and drive to achieve our goals, and it all just seems to make sense.

— Taylor of Presly & Taylor regarding their career together

S: Overall, how would you describe your sound/style as a collective duo?

T: We feel like our sound is truly unique. We draw from many influences that embrace traditional country, rock, pop and more. One thing that is distinct in the upcoming project is the live-band sound. We’re able to take that from the studio and bring it into our live-show.

P: I think another thing that makes our sound so unique is it’s just us! It’s our sister harmonies. What Tay and I can do when we sing together seems magical; it’s fun and very special, and I think it’s hard to replicate.

S: As a family duo, what unique challenges do you face? Do you think it’s easier?

T: When you’re doing something with the people you love it gives us more motivation and drive to achieve our goals, and it all just seems to make sense. There is no one else other than Presley that I would want as my sister on stage or in my life!

P: I agree; we’ve worked hard together to get here and it is so great because we have the same goals and we are achieving our goals together. It’s great having someone to lean on…knowing I’m not in this alone.

"Everybody Wanna Be Us"

S: How do you resolve an argument when the two of you have a difference of opinion while working together?

T: We’re fortunate that, most of the time, we’re on the same page. I value Presley’s opinion so much that even when she may disagree with me, I’ll take her viewpoint to heart to find a fair compromise or just let the best idea win!

P: In the few times we have a disagreement, we get over it quickly. We move on and don’t hold grudges.

S: Is there a song that you absolutely will not sing? If so, why not?

T: Honestly, not really. I think that as long as the song has quality lyrical content, we can make it our own with our harmonies, the arrangement and melody.

S: If someone goes to a Presley & Taylor concert for the very first time, what can that person expect?

T: Our live show is just fun. Performing live is one of my favorite parts in what we do. We love to include our favorite country songs in our set list along with some of our original music. We are always looking to make a connection with our audience; so we’ll want to meet you after the show!

"When a Man Walks Away"

S: Do you have a pre-concert routine?

T: On show days, I like to run a mile just to open up my lungs. Other than that, we try to relax, do our vocal warm-ups, drink lots of water and then, it’s time to pick out our stage clothes!

P: I don’t have much of a routine; I like to just give myself plenty of time to get ready and then kind of chill out before we go on stage.

S: What is your definition of success, and what’s your secret for success?

T: Success is doing what we love at the highest level possible. I’ll let you know our secret when we figure it out. ;)

P: Success, to me, is just being able to do what we love, and to do it with some longevity. No secrets…just hard work!

Remake of Mel Tillis' song "Heart Over Mind" Featuring Pam Tillis

Just for Fun:

S: What three words best describe your sister? Which three would she use to describe you?

T: Presley is smart, beautiful and caring.

P: Taylor is funny, motivated and so beautiful.

S: What’s the meanest thing you have ever done to one another during a sibling rivalry moment?

T: I threatened to take “Rover” (Presley’s stuffed animal) and hide him. “Real world!”

S: If your life was a book what would the title be?

T: “Are We There Yet?”

P: “When Can We Eat?”

S: What irrational fear do you have?

T: I’m still afraid of the dark! I don’t think it will ever go away.

I'm glad you like them, Devika! The harmonies of these two ladies are similar to the groups who helped form the roots of country music.

Devika Primic on December 02, 2019:

Country music is different and I like it. You share of some of the greatest singers and their voices are unique also sing well together

Shannon Henry (author) from Texas on November 13, 2019:

You picked a cold night to be in Texas! Of course, I am up in DFW area right now (and it's much warmer than other parts of the country), but I know Southeast Texas and Houston, too. I'm watching the CMA awards. They are saluting the women of country music this year. Presley & Taylor fit right in! Such talented young ladies. I hope they go far. Maybe you will get a chance to listen to more later. Have a good night!

manatita44 from london on November 13, 2019:

Shannon Henry (author) from Texas on November 13, 2019:

Glad you like Presley & Taylor, Pamela! I'm glad you enjoy the interviews as well. It gives me more incentive to keep doing them when I know people enjoy reading them.

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on November 13, 2019:

These two sisters sound great together. I like "Where You Belong", and I had not heard it before. I like the questions and the answers of the sisters. I have not paid attention to them but I will now as I really like their voices. This is another great interview and I really like reading them.

Shannon Henry (author) from Texas on November 13, 2019:

Good to know, Bill!

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on November 13, 2019:

I love good harmonies, and these two are very good at harmonizing. You have a new convert. I'm a fan as of today!

Shannon Henry (author) from Texas on November 13, 2019:

Hi John,

Yes, their harmonies are stunning. I don't think their twins because they mentioned in one of the questions and answers posted on the other website that Presley is older, but you can most definitely see the family resemblance. I thought the same thing at first.

John Hansen from Queensland Australia on November 12, 2019:

I'd never heard of them before but their harmonies are great...nice sound, and they seem like nice people. Are they twins/identical? Good interview.

Shannon Henry (author) from Texas on November 12, 2019:

Yes, Paula, it is fun. Thank you. I do enjoy doing these articles. I wish I had more time to keep up with them all. If you'd like to read more responses revealing their sisterly bond, I've just updated the hub with the link to the rest of the interview. It is a precious thing, I agree.

Oh, I thought of you earlier today when I got my hands on a book I've been wanting to read. I know you'd mentioned wanting to read it, too. If you want,i can mail it to you when I'm done. Better that books are enjoyed by someone else when I'm done.

Suzie from Carson City on November 12, 2019:

It must be so much fun to do these interviews with young, talented individuals. These ladies are very very good and I totally love their closeness and sisterly bond.....Sweet, precious and as it should be.

Never heard of them so your interviews keep me UP on the latest!

Beauty, allure & talent....Drat! Some girls have it ALL! Good for them!

Shannon Henry (author) from Texas on November 12, 2019:

Thanks, Angie. They do have a really good sound. I love Pam Tillis songs, too. It's almost hard to pick Pam's voice out of the three of them in the Mel Tillis cover. As for the Keith Whitley song, I think that song is so pretty. I first heard the Alison Krauss version, but I know Keith sang it first. Presley & Taylor sing it really well, too. I'm sure I'd enjoy hearing these ladies in concert.

A B Williams from Central Florida on November 12, 2019:

I love their sound Shannon! In the first song I was reminded of Pam Tillis, scrolled on down and there's a song featuring Pam Tillis, so that was interesting! Also, they do a good job on the Keith Whitley song (I know Alison Krauss did it too, but for me, it's Keith's song)

Another winner! Great job.

Shannon Henry (author) from Texas on November 12, 2019:

Hi Nell,

I've only recently discovered them, but I love their sound. Glad you like them too!

Nell Rose from England on November 12, 2019:

Well done on a great interview! I had never heard of them, but they sound really good!
