7 Best Kick-Ass Women in Country Music
It's no secret that women in country music are underrepresented and underappreciated. Real country music fans acknowledge that current country radio is a mess, filled with posers. Admittedly, some stations do play some female artists, but the female artists that get played are generally posers.
Top Female Country Artists
- Ashley McBryde
- Sunny Sweeney
- Angaleena Presley
- Ashley Monroe
- Jamie Lin Wilson
- Courtney Patton
- Miranda Lambert
Below you'll find more information about each of these kick-ass country chicks. Their music is so good that they should be getting more airplay. I hope you enjoy these incredible artists!
1. Ashley McBryde
Arkansas native, Ashley McBryde has finally received the attention she deserves. Some have described her as a cross between Hank Williams and Miranda Lambert, which I feel is accurate. Her music has a southern rock feel with a powerful voice that some say reminds them of Reba McEntire. If country radio has any sense left at all, she will be dominating the charts.
2. Sunny Sweeney
Texas native, Sunny Sweeney has been kicking ass for years. She finally received some radio play for singles like "From a Table Away." Her subsequent albums have seen less commercial success, but are still amazing. She shows a range of talent and songwriting that is hard to beat. If you've ever seen her live, it's easy to see why she has such a strong social media following. This chick is hilarious and real!
3. Angaleena Presley
Kentucky native, Angaleena Presley, is of course, 1/3 of the Pistol Annies, who it seems will be making new music soon (we can only hope). Her no-nonsense style and writing makes it easy to love her music. Three chords and the truth never sounded so good.
4. Ashley Monroe
Can we just take a moment to appreciate Ashley's Monroe's phenomenal voice? I mean, really. Ashley's been on the music scene since her teen years, with limited commercial success. Another 1/3 of the Pistol Annies, Ashley just released a new album, Sparrow, which showcases her vocal talents and of course, her songwriting. Did I mention her voice? Damn, she can sing.
5. Jamie Lin Wilson
It's hard to not love a lady who uses the hashtag #realhousewivesofdhanis.
South Texas singer/songwriter, Jamie Lin Wilson's traditional country sound mixed with her unique voice is something that country music needs right now. Her next album is scheduled for release in fall 2018.
6. Courtney Patton
Another Texas singer/songwriter - I think I'm sensing a pattern here.
Courtney does everything. Singing/songwriting/producing/distributing/etc. Her hard work has paid off with her newest album, What It's Like to Fly Alone, which has garnered some good sales and attention. She has a sort of Mary Chapin Carpenter vibe, and her songwriting skills are impeccable.
7. Miranda Lambert
Yes, I know, Miranda Lambert is famous and radio plays some of her music. However, it doesn't play enough. Miranda is able to bridge the gap between the commercially viable and the traditional country that needs to be played and heard. The Weight of These Wings has been a success in sales, but has not charted in the same way as some of her past albums. By bringing some of the above listed ladies on tour with her, she's doing what's she's always done - bringing women up instead of down and cementing her place as an icon in country music.
