The writer loves Billie Eilish's and Finneas O'Connell's music and can't get enough of it.
Born on 18 December 2001, Billie Eilish is a singer-songwriter from Los Angeles, California. She is the daughter of Maggie Baird and Patrick O’Connell, and sister to Finneas O’Connell.
Eilish first hit the limelight in 2015 after she put up the track “Ocean Eyes” on SoundCloud. Finneas, her brother, composed and produced the song, which was later publicized by Interscope Records. Eilish works together with her sibling on music and live programs.
The singer’s premiere studio album titled, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? was among the top-selling 2019 albums and performed well on the Billboard 200. It also attained a number-one position on the UK charts. “Bad Guy," which is the debut album’s fifth single, became Eilish’s first number-one track on the U.S. Billboard 200.
Through her talent, the young artist has won a plethora of awards, including:
- Five Grammy Awards: On 26 Jan 2020, Eilish became the youngest performer and second of all time to secure the four primary Grammy awards groups (Album of the Year, Best New Artist, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year) within the same year.
- Three MTV Video Music Awards
- Two American Music Awards
- Two Guinness World Records
- One Brit Award
To be honest, I only discovered Billie Eilish in 2020. I had never heard about her before, which is understandable considering we’re from two different continents. But, I’m so glad that I did. I love Billie’s music and I’m so amazed at how young she was when she started her career alongside her brother.
Here are five of Billie Eilish’s best songs.
1. “Bad Guy”
Eilish said in an interview that “Bad Guy” is essentially making fun of people who have to tell people that they have a certain persona when it’s actually not the case. Finneas and her sister recorded the track in their childhood home.
Following its release in 2019, “Bad Guy” ended the 19-week record-breaking streak of Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Old Town Road." In addition, the song received certifications from the Australian Recording Industry Association and the Recording Industry Association of America. It also won a couple of awards, including two Grammy Awards, two Telehit Awards, one MTV Video Music Award, and one iHeartRadio Music Award.
“Watch” is one of my most favorite Billie Eilish songs. The melody, lyrics, and video are all captivating, and it’s a great song to send to a person you liked, but they did not reciprocate the love. The video shows the singer burning the remains of a toxic relationship.
The 2017 pop ballad gained platinum certifications from the Australian Recording Industry Association, Music Canada, and Recording Industry Association of America.
3. “Ocean Eyes”
If a man ever proposes to me, I’m definitely playing “Ocean Eyes” at my wedding. This breakthrough song for Eilish feels so lovely and the tune feels so peaceful.
Finneas O'Connell initially wrote “Ocean Eyes” for his hometown band, The Slightlys. But, later on, he gave it to his sister, because he thought it would sound great in her voice. After recording the jam, the duo uploaded it to SoundCloud in 2015 where it was heard and shared by many people overnight. A certain music discovery site, Hillydilly, posted the track too, which increased the number of listeners.
“Ocean Eyes” is platinum-certified by the Recording Industry Association of America, IFPI Denmark, Music Canada, the Australian Recording Industry Association, and a couple of other institutions.
Billie Eilish’s voice is extraordinary, and she proves that in her hit song “Bored." The 2017 track is the lead single from the 13 Reasons Why Soundtrack. It talks about a person who feels contempt for a former lover that erred too much.
The gold-certified song’s thoughtful lyrics and beautiful piano tunes blend seamlessly with the video’s minimalist theme. Aron Forbes and Tim Anderson worked alongside Eilish and Finneas to compose the jam.
5. “You Should See Me in a Crown”
Released in 2018, “You Should See Me in a Crown” draws its inspiration from the utterance of “Moriarty” a villainous character in Sherlock (BBC TV series). The song has been featured in numerous TV programs, including the fifth episode of Euphoria season one, Queen of the South season three, and Hanna season one.
Similar to many other Billie Eilish songs, “You Should See Me in a Crown” is also platinum, and gold certified.
Billie Eilish Net Worth
The American singer-songwriter is highly prosperous in her career, and has a net worth of about $25 million. Other than music, the highly-paid musician also has a clothing line and has appeared in ads for various companies, including Adobe Creative Cloud, Calvin Klein, and Apple.
Billie Eilish gained fame at a very young age and serves as an inspiration to many young people. However, she has also opened up about suffering from depression in the past, especially between ages 13 and 16, when her career was just starting. Fortunately, with therapy and support from loved ones, Eilish has been able to have better control of her mental health.
