1. Harry Styles
Now, hear me out! I realize that Harry Styles, having been in a hugely successful boyband for a few years before starring in a huge movie by the name of Dunkirk, then releasing his debut solo album, touring the world, and performing in sold-out arenas and stadiums, isn't exactly the most underrated artist there is. He's definitely had massive success since his rise in 2010, and there's no doubt that he's got a large number of fans as it is. Still, I truly believe he should have more.
Harry's songs are masterpieces, for lack of a better word. He's only released ten songs (technically twelve, but two have not been properly released yet), but each of them is absolutely incredible. It's obvious that he spent a lot of time and effort on each and every track. The lyrics are golden and, even a whole year after the release of his album, I still find myself noticing references throughout the songs that I hadn't ever noticed before. The lyrics make you contemplate everything. His voice is strong and emotional throughout each and every song. It's even better live!
He also has an amazing personality. Harry's slogan is "Always treat people with kindness." He leads by example, always taking time to greet his fans and make sure they're happy, properly fed, and comfortable (whether they're at his shows, outside his hotel rooms, or waiting to meet with him)! Whether they're straight, gay, bi, trans, black, white, gold, or silver, Harry always makes sure to let everyone know they're welcome at his shows. He calls his shows "a safe space for everyone." He used much of his proceeds from his very first world tour to donate to charity! He's constantly and consistently kind and respectful to everyone that he meets, including his fans, haters, the rich, the poor, the young, or the old.
I'm a huge fan of Harry Styles, and I think he's the best role model anybody could have. Words can't summarize how truly incredible he and his personality are. I hope that more people begin to support him soon because he is the positive ray of sunshine that this generation so desperately needs.
Borns is an incredible artist with songs that can either make you bounce around your room singing like a lunatic or sit on your floor and cry yourself to sleep! His music can be described as indie pop, alternative rock, psychedelic pop, and electropop. In other words, most of his songs remind me of something I'd hear if I was living in the 80s (but way better). He's known for his beautiful falsetto voice, incredible instrumental talent, amazingly calming demeanor, and his lovely fashion sense! If you're into aesthetics, you'll love borns.
His music is so unlike what I've heard from other artists today. His music videos are also very unique. I could watch and listen to him all day!
3. Little Mix
It's been blowing my mind for years just how underrated Little Mix are (at least in the United States). Their songs are incredibly catchy, and though their music appeals mostly to younger audiences, they've been known to put out a few mature bops. The fact that they haven't seen much success on the charts is insane to me. Sure, they've been very successful, but not nearly as successful as they should be!
Little mix is a girl group made of four girls by the names of Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Jade Thirlwall, and Leigh-Anne Pinnock. They're so incredible as a group. Their voices mold together amazingly to create perfect harmonies, and each of their voices is incredibly unique. They seem to actually be best friends. Their love for each other is obviously not just for the cameras, and I don't see them going their separate ways anytime soon.
I hope they attract a lot of new fans very soon. They definitely deserve to!
Raye is an artist that I discovered about a year ago. The first song of hers that I ever heard was "Shh". I loved the aesthetic of the music video, loved the general vibe she gave off, and loved her unique voice! Since then, I've found myself listening to and loving a whole lot of her music! Though she's definitely on the rise, I think she still deserves more fans than she currently has.
5. Jessie Reyez
I was searching youtube, on the hunt for new artists to obsess over, when I discovered Jessie Reyez. Her incredibly unique voice caught my attention just like that! Her songs all have a unique vibe, but they fit together well!
Some of her best songs, in my opinion, are "Figures", "Shutter Island", "Body Count", and "Gatekeeper". Whether she expressing anger about a toxic partnership, or the struggles that people in the industry often go through when trying to become successful, all of her lyrics talk about serious issues.
6. Janelle Monae
Janelle Monae is an artist who's been around for quite some time, yet she's just now starting to grab the attention of mainstream audiences. She recently came out as pansexual after releasing an album that celebrates that revelation. Her songs are catchy, her videos are aesthetically pleasing and very creative. Many people would shy away from the topics she discusses, but not her!
7. Jaden Smith
Jaden Smith, also known as Syre, is the son of Will Smith (that fact alone makes me wonder just how in the world his incredible music can be so underrated). However, I doubt he's too unhappy about it, as he decided to go by his middle name, Syre, instead of Jaden Smith. He wanted his music to be enjoyed by people because of his hard work, not because he is the son of Will Smith.
Son of Will Smith or not, his music is amazing. His style of rap is different from most, and the topics he chooses to discuss in his songs are different as well. His take on society, friendships, relationships, and hard times are intriguing. I haven't heard a song of his that I've disliked!
8. Billie Eilish
Billie Eilish's rise to fame happened in the blink of an eye. Her first single, "Ocean Eyes", became wildly popular and thus, so did she. Since then, she's been releasing amazing music left and right! Her songs are incredibly calming and all too relatable. Though she's already popular (and only becoming more and more so), I still don't think she has as many listeners as she truly deserves.
9. Bhad Bhabie
Remember the smart-mouthed "Cash Me Ousside" girl from Dr. Phil? Well, she's a rapper now, and I'm gonna be honest here, I enjoy quite a few of her songs. Rap isn't everybody's favorite thing right now, especially not mumble rap by artists who only rap about drugs and cash (especially not by little girls who act too grown for their own ages). All that aside, if you do happen to enjoy meaningless rap music that has a good beat and catchy, repetitive lyrics, you might truly enjoy her songs. They really grow on you the more you listen!
10. A$AP Rocky
A$AP Rocky is one of my favorite rap artists right now. His music is so different compared to what we usually hear from today's rappers, and his videos are aesthetically unique. His voice is amazing, his lyrics have incredible depth to them, and his songs and videos become whole productions! I truly think he's one of the most underrated rappers out there and, given how truly talented he is, that's a real shame.
11. Swae Lee
Swae Lee is one half of Rae Sremmurd. Currently, he's producing solo music and working with other artists to create bop after bop. Whether you like chill songs, songs that make you wanna get up and dance, love songs, or summer hits, Swae Lee will definitely have at least one song out that you'll love.
He should definitely be more popular than he already is. I can't think of a single song of his that I don't like! His voice is very distinctive, and I've never heard anyone sing like him before! His voice really transforms his otherwise lackluster songs into incredible works of art.
12. Chloe X Halle
Chloe and Halle are two sisters who've been in the spotlight for quite a while but haven't yet gained the stardom they so desperately deserve. At the time that this article is being written, they're opening up for Beyonce and Jay Z on the OTRII tour. If that doesn't tell you how amazing they are, I don't know what will!
Together, their voices are incredible. Chloe has a beautiful, deep, soulful voice and Halle has a gorgeous, high-pitched, youthful one. Their music is like no one else's. Every one of their songs is slept on! If you're looking for new artists to listen to, you should definitely consider giving Chloe and Halle a listen!
13. King Princess
King Princess is a relatively new artist who's slowly and steadily gaining more and more fans as she continues to put out amazing hits. Still, she needs more attention ASAP! Her music is wonderful and unique. Her vibe and aesthetic are as well, and she seems to be an incredibly genuine person. If anybody deserves massive success in the music industry, I think it's her.
14. Noah Cyrus
As a musical artist, I think Noah Cyrus is vastly underrated. Her songs have a unique vibe, her voice is lovely and sounds a lot like her older sister's. The lyrics in her songs are beautiful! If you haven't already heard her music, you should really give it a try! You might be shocked by just how catchy it can be!
15. Bridget Mendler
Bridgit Mendler is mostly known for her roles on Disney, playing Teddy Duncan in "Good Luck Charlie", and Olivia in "Lemonade Mouth". While she was working on Disney, she released some kid-friendly bops. Years after leaving Disney, she put out an EP called Nemesis. Nemesis only had four songs on it, but they were each incredible. Her vocals were truly impressive! I don't think nearly enough people heard the EP, but if they did, I think they'd love it!
No matter who you choose to listen to, I'm sure you'll enjoy their music very much! If you happen to decide to listen to any of these artists, please let me know and tell me what your favorite songs were! Thank you for reading!
